Come and meet us at the Anarchist Bookfair!

We’ve had a very busy year, from the EDL’s sudden resurgence in May to last week’s shock resignation of their leader, from stopping the BNP marching in June to the huge mobilisation in Tower Hamlets for September 7th, from stopping the March for England in Brighton in April to numerous solidarity demos outside the Greek embassy. In between we have organised to stop fascism everywhere from Southend to Brighton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Berwick, Leeds, Bradford, London, Manchester, Nottingham, Sunderland, South Shields, Croydon and Sheffield to mention but a few!

Things continue to rapidly change and develop and we continue to grow as we try to meet the challenge of combatting racism and fascism in all their forms.

The bookfair is from 10am-7pm at Queen Mary, University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS.

We will have a stall there all day and a will be holding a public meeting from 12-1pm with a range of AFN speakers presenting an introduction to who we are and what we do. There will be time for questions and discussion about the important next steps for anti-fascism.

Come and chat to us if you are interested in getting involved or have questions, if you want to set up a group or are in a group that would like to join the network. Look forward to seeing you there!

Did you hear the one about the Casuals United in Bristol?

EDL splinter group Casuals United threatened an English Disco Lovers event in Bristol at the weekend. Bristol Anti-Fascists report…

Casuals United disco disappointment in Bristol – Embarrassing without even getting on the dancefloor!

A very amusing day was had by antifascists in Bristol yesterday as the Casuals United gave us an exemplary demonstration of total irrelevance. Their “loads… heading for Bristol” (er… last count was 8 of them!) were clearly a figment of an overactive facebook fantasy. We did have a seriously good look around for them but “all the Bristol lads” and the “loads swerving Bradford” to come to Bristol were conspicuous by their absence at both the English Disco Lovers flash mob in the day and their dance night that evening. What we did see was a group of 8 looking a bit lost in the Galleries shopping mall, taking photos of an anti racist shopfront and promptly retreating to the nearby Bayhorse pub when things started getting a bit edgy (i.e. when 2 mall security guards showed a bit of interest and got on their radios). The Bayhorse pub, it should be noted, is the closest pub to New Bridewell cop shop, so a good choice for anyone seeking to avoid any trouble or feel safe drinking next door to the police. They tried to put a brave face on, but the look of the day was very much, “Is this it?”. Very disappointing. Still, in cloud casual cuckooland it can all still be tweeted and claimed as a victory and the mismatch between what they say and what actually went on is hilarious as in their minds they heroically closed down the “disco shop”. However, despite a walk by and a few photos taken by what we can only assume is the Casuals’ finest (all 8 of them!), the shop, staffed, seemingly, by a few young students, remained open. You can polish yer trainers, but you can’t polish a turd, lads!

EDL’s Bradford hate tour an overwhelming success for anti-fascists, a humiliation for the EDL.

[reblogged from Bradford Anti-Fascist Network]

For all their bluster about Bradford being the BIG ONE less than 250 English Defence League braved the Yorkshire rain to try start their race war in the city. They didn’t stand a chance, the Police were out in force but so were the people of Bradford. Around a 150 went into the official demonstration area run by the UAF and were kettled there far away from the EDL but a similar number of Antifascist activists along with perhaps 300 other locals went into the streets to face the EDL and voice their anger at their city being invaded by these bigoted, racist, nut jobs. The EDL were drowned out as Anti-fascists and locals mocked their chants and raised their voices with their own. The streets of Bradford truly belonged to the Bradfordians and there was a festival feeling as even the cops couldn’t help but smile at the  humour of the diverse crowd reworking football chants and singing anti-fascist songs together. Bradford Anti-fascist Network was at the fore of the protest and our members were cheered by other locals as we shouted down the vile EDL. We handed out 200 leaflets on the day calling for the anti-fascist mood to be carried over into other actions, which was positively received.

Bradford Latest Demo Info

10 10 2013

The now officially racist EDL under their new ‘National Organiser’ Tim Ablitt (previously arrested in connection with a bomb attack on a mosque) are still coming to Bradford this Saturday 12th October.

They will be arriving by train at Bradford Interchange or parking up in Bridge Street. They will then be quarantined in the Queen pub from 11am onwards, which is planning to profit from their presence in the city. We encourage everyone to ring the pub on 01274 767901 and complain about this.

They will be having a static rally rather than a march and speeches will apparently be held at 2pm.

The police have prepared two sites to keep the EDL away from the city centre and remove their ability to attack locals and spark the race war they have stated they want to start in the city.

The council have laid down tarmac and have erected fencing at point B. But as of Wednesday 9th October West Yorkshire Police Press Office have confirmed the EDL static demo will be at point A on Bridge Street.

Dundee, Bradford, Croydon, Brighton: A successful weekend for anti-fascists

8 10 2013

A busy weekend for anti-fascists across the country.

Residents of Dundee and anti-fascists from across Scotland said ‘Nae Nazis’ and outnumbered the Scottish Defence League and the reinforcements they habitually bus in from Northern England. A report on the local newspaper website reported  ‘you can’t see the fascists for the protesters and the police’.

Meanwhile at the other end of the country, the BNP were experiencing an even greater humiliation as all 20 of them were drowned out by anti-fascists in Croydon. They were attempting a protest outside the UK Border Agency’s offices. Trades Unionists from Croydon TUC were joined by UAF and South London Anti-Fascists to oppose them. Despite nearly 350 anti-fascists being bailed away from any demonstrations inside the M25, they still managed to outnumber the BNP 4 to 1. Following the BNP’s defeat in June when anti-fascists stopped them marching on the Cenotaph, this only confirms how washed-up they really are.

Fascist remanded after Gloucester mosque arson attack

23 06 2013

[Reblogged from 3 Counties Anti-Fascist Alliance]

Following on from an arson attack on a mosque in Gloucester on Tuesday morning, two local men have been charged with conspiracy to commit arson and remanded in custody. It’s interesting to note that Clive Ceronne, one of the accused, is a known far-right activist in the local area. He was previously involved with the Gloucester English Defence League ‘division’ as well as setting up and administrating the ‘South West Infidels’ Facebook page. Ceronne is also listed as the Gloucestershire ‘officer’ for the New British Union, you can find out more about him and his fellow fascists here.

Cheltenham man charged with mosque ‘hate crime’

A CHELTENHAM man has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson following a “hate crime” at a mosque.

Ashley Henry Juggins, 20, of Brooklyn Road will appear before magistrates today following the blaze in Gloucester.

o-GLOUCESTER-MOSQUE-570

Clive Michael Ceronne, 37, of 23 Redwood Close in Gloucester faces a similar charge after an attack on Masjid-E-Noor in Ryecroft Street in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A number of mosques across the country have been targeted since Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich last month.

Police confirmed yesterday it was being treated as a hate crime after CCTV appeared to show someone pouring petrol around the door and igniting it with a lit rag.

Officers initially believed a person could have been engulfed by the flames, but later stated no one was thought to be injured in the fire.

The fire left minimal damage to the place of worship’s doors after a Good Samaritan, believed to be a Polish taxi driver, leapt from his car and tackled the flames with a fire extinguisher.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service confirmed flames were out when they arrived on the scene, just before 1am.

Since the attack police have been talking to the Muslim community in Cheltenham to allay fears. They have vowed to step up patrols around Gloucester’s mosques and said the two in Cheltenham were on current routes.

One Cheltenham Muslim, who only wanted to be identified as Mohamed, said any hate crime was sad for the community.

He said: “Many of us have been worried about reprisals since Lee Rigby, which was condemned by us all here in Cheltenham. Gloucestershire generally has a welcoming attitude to everyone and that is one of the reasons I live here. But something like this can make a community feel isolated.

“Personally the way to combat any kind of hate crime is by having a ‘business as usual’ approach and not being beaten, but it is tremendously hard when things like this happen.”

The Gloucester Muslim Welfare Association said in a statement: “The mosque will continue and remains committed to work towards promoting peace, tolerance and community cohesion across all sections of the community.”

Chief Inspector for Gloucester Richard Burge said: “Gloucestershire has a wonderfully diverse and welcoming community and people will be upset and angry about this.”

The pair who have now been charged were remanded in custody last night following their arrest.”

Fascist friendly shop In Brum – woops!

21 05 2013

We’ve just been told about a fascist friendly shop – ‘Target Zone’ that has opened up in the Oasis shopping centre in Birmingham – have a look at the crap they sell – It’s the kind of shit t-shirts you would expect the more hard-line EDL or Infidels/National Front types to wear on the off chance they might upset a grandma, they would most likely wear it with a coat so they could quickly zip up if they saw someone a bit tough approaching!
http://www.targetszone.co.uk/id76.html

The Oasis Centre sells itself as an alternative shopping kind of place, with goth & retro shops etc. Regular visitors to the centre are pretty shocked that the management would let a seemingly pro fascist shop open up, that clearly goes against the hippy alternative vibe of the place. Of course it’s more than possible the owners of the new store just lied and said they are just a military surplus shop.
Local antifascists are for now, prepared to do things the nice way, and are encouraging people to put in complaints here:
http://www.theoasisfashionstore.co.uk/how-to-find-us.asp – 0121 233 4488 – to chat directly with the shop owner dial 0750214944.

West Midlands Anti-Fascists are also calling for people to get in touch with the local rag – The Birmingham Mail, as they have previously reported on three young men who probably spend all their pocket money in the new Oasis shop – the West Midlands Infidels! Here’s a pic from the Birmingham Mail of the West Midlands Infidels protesting outside of a primary school. Fucking Scum.

"Play times over boys - and Darren, I thought I told you to stop hanging around my kids!"

“Play times over boys” – Darren Clift (middle) with his only two friends, and one of them has to be in before 8pm. Note all 3 are wearing zip ups, arf arf!!

Needless to say other antifascist groups in the area will be keeping a close eye on Target Zone, and we imagine the local Asian yuffs might also have a few things to say….

Far Right Demonstration in Nottingham on Saturday

28 03 2013

re-posted from East Midlands Anti-fascists

Far right activists, led by Casuals United and Tony Curtis of the English National Resistance, will be holding a demonstration against a Muslim conference in Nottingham this weekend. They will be protesting outside the East Midlands Conference Centre at 1pm on Saturday 30th March.

Demo organiser Tony Curtis: Hate speaker?

Demo organiser Tony Curtis: Hate preacher?

In response to our previous article asking why they were coming, they have now seen fit to reveal that they are protesting the invitation of Haitham al-Haddad to speak at the conference. Previously they just told their followers to blindly follow their command to oppose the “hate preachers” and none of them asked questions. Blind obedience seems to be as alive and well in the far right as it was in the days of “just following orders” 1930s Germany.

The decision to oppose al-Haddad is not unreasonable, given that he hasreportedly described Jews as “the enemies of God, and the descendants of apes and pigs” and believes in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He has said that should a woman refuse to sleep with her husband, “angels will curse” her and has written in favour of the prohibition of musical instruments. That he is speaking at a family event and passing on these bigoted ideas is very disturbing.

But it is the utmost hypocrisy for former EDL members to be protesting this man. After all, Tony Curtis has supported the NWI recently, even though leader, John “Snowy” Shaw also believes in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and extreme anti-Semitic ideas. Why is Curtis protesting a Muslim hate preacher but not the hate preacher in his own midst? We can also point the finger at Jeff Marsh, leader of Casuals United, who set up the the openly Nazi Welsh Defence League. Even the former leader of the EDL’s Jewish Division quit claiming that the organisation had been taken over by Nazis. The EDL has courted Jews when it has seemed politically useful but is now turning back to anti-Semites for support.

Casuals United leader Jeff Marsh's Welsh Defence League: very tolerant of Jews

Casuals United leader Jeff Marsh’s Welsh Defence League: very tolerant of Jews

It’s also hypocritical for the far right to criticise al-Haddad’s sexist ideas and lack of respect for a woman’s sexual consent. EDL members have been exposed for promoting rape as a weapon against their enemies and local members were exposed by us for their misogynist and sexually predatory posts. Some of these men will be turning up to “oppose” al-Haddad’s views on women at the weekend, but their own are equally disgusting and backwards. Why aren’t Casuals and Curtis booting them out of the ranks? Maybe because they aren’t brown or bearded enough.

Al-Haddad should be opposed by the vast majority who find his views abhorrent, not this ragtag bunch of far right misfits whose own ideas are just as disgusting. It would be best if both al-Haddad and the racist, sexist, homophobes of the far right were sent packing.
