AFN groups hooked up with Birmingham UAF, Birmingham Strong Justice4ALL, unions, community groups and many others under the ‘We Are Birmingham’ banner this Saturday 11th. People came out despite the rain to demonstrate in Victoria Square together, making clear we reject the EDL’s vile and divisive message. Everyone seemed to enjoy the live music and a chance meet new people. One topic that came up a lot was the Nobel Peace Prize awarded yesterday to Malala, a Pakistani schoolgirl and activist now living in Birmingham. Read the rest of this entry »

Nazis in Newcastle

8 10 2014

Last Saturday 4th October, anti fascists in Newcastle opposed the National Front (NF) demonstration at Grey’s Monument in the city centre. The NF are white nationalists, openly old-school fascists, into Enoch Powell and swastikas. Presumably worried about anti fascists ‘jumping the pitch’ the NF organisers turned up over half an hour early. By midday they were joined by English Defence League, Scottish Defence League and North East Infidels supporters, showing the truth behind their online claims to hate Nazis. There were about 40 of them hanging around in all. Read the rest of this entry »

Bald men struggle over comb: Griffin booted out of the BNP

7 10 2014

By9gxxlIAAAHGKJ.jpg-large

Anti-fascists have been laughing themselves silly at the spectacle of Nick Griffin being chucked out of the party he led for 15 years. For many years the most recognisable and prominent fascist in Britain, Griffin has been unceremoniously ditched by a group of non-entities he once counted as some of his closest supporters.

Opposing factions in the BNP have been eyeing each other up since Griffin was eased out of the party leadership in July. Internal rumblings burst out into the open when Griffin produced a document claiming serious financial impropriety over wills and the shocking claim that the party had become a dictatorship. Surely not! Well, here’s the thing Nick, when it comes to fascism, that’s the idea.

Make plans now to get yourself out in Birmingham city centre next Saturday, to oppose the racist English Defence League. AFN groups from around the country are organising to go and confront the fascists.

We Are Birmingham have called for a counter demonstration at 11am in Victoria Square, backed by an anti racist unity statement signed by a huge range of unions, campaign groups, local celebrities and community groups. Birmingham Strong Justice 4 All have also called for a counter demonstration.

Last July the EDL had a drunken mob style demo in Birmingham city centre that has resulted in over 60 of them getting arrested, including many convicted of violent disorder.

Glasgow and London Report

20 09 2014

banner

So far this weekend has seen two far-right events in the UK: a nationalist rally in Glasgow’s George Sq celebrating Scotland’s “No” vote, and a national EDL march in Central London.

On Friday night, loyalists, British nationalists and fascists gathered in George Sq, central Glasgow to celebrate the “no” vote. The rally started peacfully enough but soon descended into violence as members of the far right chanted “no surrender”, waved Ulster Unionist flags, nazi saluted and attacked “yes” voters. There are multiple reports that the Scottish Defence League, National Front and Britain First were in attendance, although this has not been confirmed. There are, however, multiple confirmations of far-right chanting and nazi-saluting. It seems very probable that far right groups were out in force last night.

Yesterday, 18th Sept, was the one year anniversary of the murder of Pavlos Fyssas. Thursday 18th September marks one year since the death of Pavlos Fyssas – a Greek metal worker, anti-fascist and hip-hop artist who was knifed to death in the street in Athens by Golden Dawn neo-Nazis as police stood by and watched. His tragic death helped wake up the world to the danger of the Golden Dawn and Europe’s resurgent fascist movements.

Greek anti-fascist movements have called for this Thursday to be a Europe wide day of remembrance for Pavlos. There are events taking place across the continent on the 18th.

‘Scum on Filth on Scum’: Report of EDL demo in Rotherham

15 09 2014

???????????????????????????????

Report on Saturday’s far-right Rotherham demo from UK Aktion blog.

Well it unsurprisingly transpired that the EDL National Demo in Rotherham yesterday was a shambles. Some sources put their numbers at 500, some at 1000+ maybe more; it is fair to say that yesterday Rotherham was a petri dish of right-wingers, crawling all over this issue like flies to shit. Without going into too much detail about the consequences of the hijacking of a public, emotional issue (as it has been addressed in the last couple days by both the Anti-Fascist Network and by ACABrighton, both posts are reblogged below) it is useful to have a quick summary of their day in town. The guest-list to this depressing party included the sordid likes of the NF, the BNP, the laughably the tiny crew of Infidels, as well as a couple jokers from Casuals United (aka. the Pie and Mash Squad). A report included in Malatesta’s blog states that the BNP “were spotted on the outskirts of town at a roundabout, such were their numbers I was unable to take a photograph. We passed the 7 of them in a split second and I hadn’t even got the cover open on my phone.” Yet, bizarre points of the day go to far-right extreme religious nutjobs, The World Church of the Creator, described here as “formed in the United States by a paedophile named Ben Klassen”, adopting “Adolf Hitler as their God!”.

Anti-Fascist Network statement on the far-right and the Rotherham scandal

13 09 2014

banner

It is the responsibility of anti-racists and anti-fascists to break the silence on the nature of the far-right’s presence in Rotherham.

By now virtually everyone in the country must be acquainted with the horrific details of the child sex abuse in Rotherham. As far as the extreme-right are concerned this is the perfect storm: a gang of Asian men with the connivance of ‘politically correct’ authorities engaged in systematic abuse of young white girls. The mainstream media are effectively spouting EDL press releases, while the EDL themselves accuse all those who oppose them of condoning paedophilia. Meanwhile, the whole spectrum of extreme right-wing groups have taken up residence in Rotherham, establishing a permanent camp outside the police station and holding marches and demonstrations through the town, all building up to today’s large ‘unity’ demonstration of all the racist groups.
