From London Anti-Fascists:

1pm Saturday 23 May
Outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square

Facebook event

David Lane was a founding member of American neo-Nazi terror group The Order. He died in 2007 serving a 150 year prison sentence for his neo-Nazi activities. When The Order murdered liberal Jewish talk show host Alan Berg, Lane was the getaway driver. Lane was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan and coined the infamous ’14 words’ slogan, popular on the far-right.

On Saturday 23 May neo-Nazis will gather outside the US embassy to pay their respects to this racist piece of shit. This will be the third neo-Nazi protest supporting terrorists to take place outside the US embassy in the past six months. We say enough is enough, fascist events in central London need to end.

EDL still trying to use Lee Rigby for their political gain

16 05 2015

Several branches of the EDL are planning events ‘in memorial’ of Lee Rigby, despite his family specifically asking for his death not to be exploited by such groups.

Essex Antifascists are organising against Colchester EDL’s march to the war memorial. Last year a small group of fascists stood awkwardly at the memorial whilst heckled by antifascists pointing out how disrespectful it is to use someone’s name for things they didn’t agree with.

Far right groups should not be tolerated demonstrating in any place, no matter what their excuse. Come to Colchester on the 22nd to make it clear! More details coming up.

Britain First upset Lee Rigby’s family by using the slogan ‘remember Lee Rigby‘ on their ballot paper entry in Wales. The Electoral Commission admitted it should not have allowed the far right party this slogan.

EDL fail to impress in Walthamstow

12 05 2015

[Sorry this was posted rather late due to some technical problems]

About 100 EDL only marched through Walthamstow on Saturday with the help of a gigantic police operation. A thousand anti fascists of all sorts turned out to oppose the racist march through this multicultural area. Some gathered at the Town Hall, the end, rally, point of the EDL march, while others tried to block the route at the beginning of the march near Blackhorse Road station. Here, police detained a large group of anti fascists for several hours but luckily changed their minds about arresting everyone, for nothing.

Far-right election results

8 05 2015

UPDATED WITH ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS

In amongst the headline-grabbing triumphs and losses of the bigger parties in the election, another story goes rather less reported – how have the far-right and fascist parties fared?

Pretty appallingly, we are pleased to report.

The far right are finished as an electoral force. The election results for the BNP and others could not make this clearer. In 2010, the BNP stood and won 563,743 votes. In 2015, eight BNP candidates scraped together 1,667, in what must rank as one of the most humiliating collapses in British electoral history. Not a single one of their candidates polled over 1% of the vote. Anti-fascists should be congratulating BNP leader and Rotherham parliamentary candidate Adam Walker, who managed to reduce the BNP vote in the constituency from 3,906 in 2010 to 225 in 2015, on the way he has run the party’s election campaign.

This Sat May 9th – Block EDL in Walthamstow / Stop Britain First in Dudley

Whatever happens with the election on Thursday, the struggle against racism and fascism will continue. Indeed it will continue with hardly a pause as Saturday May 9th sees two major mobilisations for anti-fascists in Dudley in the Midlands and Walthamstow in East London.

And whatever happens to UKIP in the election, the tide of racism and xenophobic anti-immigrant hysteria that they have both ridden and helped create will not disappear after polling day. Its toxic legacy will be long-lasting and we will be dealing with an increase in racist and far-right attacks because of it.

‘Pin-striped Nazis’ and their ‘henchmen’: The links between UKIP and the fascists

5 05 2015

141203-farage_0

One of the most worrying developments we have seen in this election campaign has been the emergence of fascist groups acting as ‘muscle’ or henchmen for UKIP. This mirrors the classic pattern of far-right organising where an electoral party is backed up on the street by gangs of thugs, intimidating opponents and pushing forward the party agenda.

There has been a spike in attacks on rival political parties and anti-UKIP campaigners as the election has come closer, especially in Thanet, where Nigel Farage is hoping to be elected.

However, this disturbing link-up between, as BNP splinter group Britain First put it, “UKIP at the ballot box, Britain First on the streets” will not evaporate once the election is over. It is definitely something for anti-fascists and anti-racists to keep our eyes on and attempt to counteract.

Far-right candidates in the local and general elections

1 05 2015

11102655_1048807591814206_6207407446209318567_n

Regardless of the results, next week’s general and local elections are already good news for anti-fascists. The far-right has collapsed electorally and is not mounting a serious challenge in any constituency in the UK. This is a very different from 2010, when the BNP stood 338 parliamentary candidates. This time round they are standing 8. Despite an influx of former BNP members to other far-right groups, notably the English Democrats, other fascist groups have not been able to pick up the slack. Electorally, the far-right is at its lowest ebb for a generation, although this is partly because the vote won by groups like the BNP has swung toward UKIP.

We hate to kick a man when he’s down, but this represents a golden opportunity for anti-fascists to push these racist groups out of the political arena completely.

March to nowhere?

27 04 2015

re-blogged from Brighton Anti-Fascists

It’s been a busy weekend for Brighton Antifascists, despite the March for England not even trying to hold their annual crap-fest of a march this year.

The weekend began early with “Pompey” Dave Smeetyon (leader of March for England) and about 10 of his sad looking mates turning up in town  on Thursday to celebrate St Georges day by doing a quick photoshoot on the pier then spending the rest of the evening hiding in the beer garden of the King & Queen, checking nervously over their shoulder in case antifascists turned up. Despite various threats they didn’t try going within 100m of the Cowley.

UPDATED WED 22nd:

  • Travel with our transport or aim to be in Blackpool for midday
  • Exact location to be revealed on the day
  • Keep checking OpposeMFE Twitter and Facebook for the latest info and for updates during the day.
  • More info for the day here

Anti-fascists from around the country will be joining local people in Blackpool this Sat 25th to stand up against the racist ‘March for England’.

For seven years the March for England descended on Brighton. At first posing as merely an innocent St. George’s Day parade, it was in fact stuffed with far-right racists and fascists, allowing them another opportunity to parade their hatred through the streets.

After several years of robust opposition from the people of Brighton who turned out in their thousands to tell MfE that they were not wanted, the fascists finally gave up and have decamped to the North West where they hope they will get a friendlier reception.

From Solihull to Stamford Hill – anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish hate will be opposed!

20 04 2015

11130280_498667406948997_2806901785840377818_n

It’s unfortunate for the ‘new right’ of the EDL and the anti-Muslim ‘counter-Jihad’ movement, that as much as they constantly proclaim that they “aren’t racist because Islam isn’t a race” (© every racist ever), old-fashioned neo-Nazi Jew-haters keep popping up to remind everyone that all the same arguments they use against Muslims have been used before against Jews.

As a very good piece by Jewdas points out, all the same lies historically used by anti-Semites are now being applied to Muslims. And yet this Islamophobic hatred is far more culturally acceptable than anti-Semitism. Take the average rant about Islam from Britain First, the EDL, UKIP or the Daily Mail, switch all the words referring to Muslims and Islam to Jews and Judaism and see how much it sounds like the Nazis.
