Anti-fascist action in Lincoln and London this weekend

20 01 2014

lincoln2

Saturday saw mobilisations against the far-right in both Lincoln and London. The bad guys this time were not the EDL but some of the plethora of tiny but even nastier far-right groups who think the EDL are a bunch of liberals.

Lincoln

The demonstration in Lincoln was called by the ‘East Anglian Patriots’ but supported by a number of allied far-right groups. They parachuted in from the outside (Lincoln is not in East Anglia!) to impose their views on the population of the town regarding the proposed construction of a mosque.

New resources for Slough demonstration

10 01 2014

AFN in co-ordination with Berkshire Anti-Fascists are calling for a mass mobilisation to Slough to oppose the EDL’s first national demo of 2014 on Saturday 1st February. The EDL hope to regain some momentum after another spectacular decline after losing Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carol. We stress that the EDL may have suffered over the last few months but they are still an active threat to diverse working class communities.

EDL outnumbered in Bristol

8 01 2014

Yesterday evening’s demonstration against the EDL in Bristol seems to have gone well despite short notice.

The local Bristol EDL had called a demonstration outside a meeting that was to be discussing an application to convert the empty Jesters comedy club in Stokes Croft into an Islamic religious and cultural centre. The event was to be for members of the Assahaba Centre group proposing the development to “discuss the objectors’ concerns and provide a better insight into the Islamic faith”. Funnily enough no one objecting to the development was interested in this and the meeting was cancelled due to lack of interest from objectors. The EDL not interested in actually hearing about the Muslim faith from some actual Muslims? Who’d have thought?

North East Anti-Fascists review of the year 2013

29 12 2013

This is the account of the North East Anti Fascists 2013

shotton2

We live in the area of the UK where the fascists are at their strongest, and so our task is far harder than other areas, especially given wider political issues which make progressive left wing politics in the North East even harder ie, bureaucratic and institutionalised labour movements and authoritarian left politics.

Nationally, the year started off very badly for Tommy Robinson who was sent down for using a false passport to get into the USA – Tommy the Illegal Immigrant! Tommy Robinson later abandoned the failing EDL having been shocked to discover they’re a bunch of racist nazis – who’d have thought it!?

Anti-fascists on the streets in 2014

19 12 2013

Anti-fascists are getting organised to oppose the far-right on the streets in 2014.

LINCOLN Anti-Mosque-Racism-Protest-08-06-2013-SS-19 copy

Last time the East Anglian ‘Patriots’ had a demo in Lincoln, back in June, they were opposed by a resolute crowd of locals, showing they were not welcome.

On Saturday January 18th the East Anglian ‘Patriots’ are holding a demonstration in Lincoln. The East Anglian Patriots are yet another faction to the right of the EDL. Yes that’s right – to the right. Apparently the EDL which its founder left because it was infested with Nazis isn’t right-wing enough for them.

Wakefield anti-EDL write up rant

4 12 2013

This isn’t Wakefield – it’s Bradford.
But it’s a better picture than any of the ones of Wakefield.

Report taken from Leeds Anti-Fascist Network

This was written by a local Wakey person about the EDL’s visit the other week. A wonderful read and probably better than anything any of us could have written!

Dear 36 year old man from Wakefield who got arrested. This is a rant what was written on the day – hope it makes you smile. It wasn’t published cos it is mean and grumpy and says bad things and because the label on the Yogi tea-bag said ‘be nice’. It’s really hard to be nice – lets drink coffee instead.

On Saturday in Wakefield the EDL held one of their booze fuelled ‘demos’ against some or other mythical problem, and Unite Against Fascism set up a group to counter this called ‘We are Wakefield’. As we live here and therefore are Wakefield we thought it best we show our faces.
